Teltara Ndee Tribal Enterprises: Press Release

October 27, 2005 - Gilson Wash District Economic Enterprise awarded $ 9.6 million in Contracts

San Carlos – In January of 2004 the San Carlos Apache Tribe created the Gilson Wash District Economic Enterprise (GWDE). The enterprise was established to provide the Gilson Wash District with a vehicle for capitalizing on economic development ventures that create employment and a return on investment that would be reinvested in the community for education, housing, business development, and community development activities.

A Board of Directors was established consisting of David Beaver, Executive Vice President of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development; Patsy Cohoe of the National American Indian Housing Council; Terry Jones, Consultant; and Dennis Burns of Sunbelt Business Advisors LLC. Each individual board member brings a wealth of expertise to the District Enterprise. Tribal council members Charles Stevens and David Reede are active with the enterprise board and have been involved with the planning, organizing, and implementation of the enterprise’s business ventures.

In October of 2004 the Board initiated preliminary discussion with a firm in Scottsdale, AZ that specializes in winning and performing Federal Government contracts. It was the intent of the Board to strategically position a subsidiary of the Enterprise to engage in for profit government contracting activity and capitalize on the advantages a tribally operated Enterprise is afforded through various government regulations that federal agencies utilize to assist small business.

The GWDE created Teltara Ndee Tribal Enterprises LLC and has opened an administrative office in Scottsdale, AZ. The new company will initially focus on providing services in the custodial/janitorial industry, armed and unarmed security service, and food service sector. The long term goal of the new company will be to provide military base maintenance for any Department of Defense installation both domestic and foreign.
